SBAN Responds to Dissenting Investors' Warnings about Potential TMS Closures

Following recent protests and concerns raised by dissatisfied investors regarding new taxation arrangements outlined in the fiscal budget, the Stock Brokers' Association of Nepal (SBAN) has issued a response.

In an official press release, SBAN acknowledged that certain investors have expressed dissatisfaction with the proposed changes presented in the Economic Bill of 2080. The association further noted that some protesting investors have attempted to disrupt Trading Management Services (TMS) by visiting various brokerage houses. Additionally, these protestors have vehemently warned brokerage houses to remain non-functional amidst ongoing dissent from investors.

SBAN has appealed to relevant officials and stakeholders to facilitate a secure environment that allows brokerage houses and their staff to continue their services smoothly and without interruptions.

Furthermore, SBAN emphasized the sensitivity of the share market and the necessity for thorough discussions with concerned officials and stakeholders prior to implementing any alterations to existing laws and regulations that may impact the market, either directly or indirectly. Such pre-discussions are deemed crucial in safeguarding the interests of investors and ensuring the stability of the capital market.

Nepal and Bangladesh are set to sign a power sales agreement for the purchase of 40 MW of electricity

The export of electricity from Nepal to Bangladesh requires the utilization of transmission lines in India, making India's consensus crucial in the matter. To address this, discussions were held during the meeting regarding the construction of dedicated transmission lines connecting Nepal and Bangladesh.

Furthermore, the meeting decided to assign a Joint Technical Team to study the potential need for international transmission lines between Nepal, India, and Bangladesh within a six-month period. This study aims to explore the feasibility of importing electricity from Nepal through international transmission lines.

In addition, the secretariat-level meeting between Nepal and Bangladesh agreed to sign a Joint Venture Agreement within six months for the construction of the Sun Koshi-3 Hydropower Project, which will involve combined investment.

The Ministries of Power Energy and Mineral Resources of Bangladesh, as well as Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation of Nepal, have decided to initiate discussions with India to establish tripartite executive coordination. This coordination will cover the sale/purchase of electricity, the construction of international transmission lines, and cooperation in the energy sector.

Previously, in Shrawan 2077 (July-August 2020), the Nepalese government approved the Nepal Electricity Authority's sale of excess electricity to neighboring India and Bangladesh, as Nepal's electricity production exceeded domestic consumption.

Bangladesh, known primarily as a leading manufacturer of textile products, has experienced rapid economic growth, leading to an increased demand for energy. Importing electricity to Bangladesh holds significant importance due to the potential for greater demand from Bangladesh in the near future.

Today, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) witnessed a positive trend with a 1.28% increase, settling at a level of 1,845.01. Encouragingly, all sectors managed to conclude the day in the green.

 The NEPSE index concluded today's trading session at a level of 1,845.01, marking a gain of 23.39 points or 1.28% compared to the previous day's closing. Yesterday, the index had gained 3.29 points.

The trading day began with an opening value of 1,821.54 and reached an intraday low of 1,821.02. However, it surged to a high of 1,846.72 before settling at 1,845.01 at the end of the day.

During the trading session, a total of 266 scrips were traded through 25,634 transactions. The total volume of shares traded amounted to 2,577,210, valued at Rs. 85.76 Crores in turnover. This represents an increase in turnover compared to the previous trading day, which saw a turnover of Rs. 64.01 Crores.

Starting from Jestha 11, Unique Nepal Laghubitta will be issuing 379,425 units of FPO (Follow-on Public Offering) shares to the general public.

 

Unique Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (UNLB) has recently announced its plan to issue a Follow-on Public Offer (FPO) through an offer letter to the general public. The FPO will consist of 379,425 units of shares with a face value of Rs 100 each, starting from Jestha 11, 2080. The objective of this FPO is to raise a total of Rs 3.79 crore. The initial closing date for the subscription is set for Jestha 16, with the possibility of extension up to Jestha 25, 2080, if the issue is not fully subscribed.

As of now, the company's paid-up capital stands at Rs. 11.06 crores, with 94.01% of shares (10,40,025 units) owned by the promoters and 5.99% (66,300 units) held by the public shareholders. However, as per the regulations of the Banks and Financial Institutions Act of 2073 and the NRB, it is mandatory for the public shareholders to hold at least 30% of the issued capital. To comply with this requirement, the company will be issuing 379,425 units of FPO shares to the general public. Following the FPO, the promoter-to-public share ratio will shift from 94:6 to 70:30.

It is worth noting that Unique Nepal Laghubitta had initially planned to issue an IPO for 2.70 lakh shares. However, due to a successful merger with Ghodighoda Laghubitta, both entities merged and commenced their joint operation under the name of Unique Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited on Poush 30, 2078. Since Ghodighoda Laghubitta was a publicly listed company, the merged entity decided to proceed with an FPO to adjust the shareholding ratio instead.

Muktinath Capital Limited has been appointed as the issue manager for the FPO issuance. Interested investors can apply for a minimum of 10 units and a maximum of 1000 units. After the FPO shares are issued, the paid-up capital of the company will increase to Rs. 14.85 crores.

In terms of credit rating, CARE Ratings Nepal Limited (CRNL) has revised the issuer rating of Unique Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Limited (UNLB) to CARE-NP B+ (Is) from CARE-NP BB- (Is). This rating indicates a relatively high risk of default concerning the timely fulfillment of financial obligations in Nepal.

Opening at 1,821.81, the index reached an intraday low of 1,807.53 but managed to climb to a peak of 1,826.65 before settling at 1,818.31.

A total of 266 stocks were traded through 20,158 transactions. The trading volume amounted to 2,341,240 shares, equivalent to Rs. 72.49 Crores in turnover. This marks a decrease from the turnover of Rs. 90.05 Crores recorded during the previous trading day.
